Construction and industrial worksites rely heavily on paper-based incident reporting, radio communication, and manual check-ins for safety management. These processes are slow, inconsistent, and fail in high-stress emergencies.
Workers and supervisors needed a digital tool that was fast, intuitive under pressure, and worked reliably even in low-connectivity environments.
SAFE centralizes worksite safety into a single mobile app. Workers can trigger emergency alerts with one tap, file incident reports in under two minutes, and supervisors can monitor team status in real-time from any location.
The UX was designed around high-stress scenarios, large touch targets, high-contrast visuals, and minimal cognitive load at every critical interaction.
Shadowed site supervisors, interviewed workers, and reviewed industry safety standards. The most critical insight: in an emergency, complexity kills. Every interaction needed to be achievable in under 3 seconds.
Mapped the complete safety workflow, from daily check-ins to emergency escalation. Defined information hierarchy and alert priority levels. Designed offline-first architecture requirements.
High-contrast design system optimized for outdoor use and glove-wearing. Large interactive targets, clear status indicators, and a color-coded alert system. Prototyped and tested with actual site workers.
Managed development sprints, coordinated real-world testing on active worksites, and drove the MVP to launch. Post-launch feedback directly shaped the next iteration roadmap.
Designing for high-stress, high-stakes scenarios demands radical simplicity. Every extra tap is a second that matters, this project sharpened my instinct for prioritizing ruthlessly.
Lab usability testing is insufficient for field tools. Testing on actual worksites revealed critical issues that would never have surfaced in a controlled environment.
Safety tools must work without reliable internet. Designing for offline-first and graceful degradation became a core principle that shaped every technical and UX decision.
